Florida MEP and FASI Launch Statewide Fire Alarm Control Panel Systems Training for Firefighters and First Responders
Celebration, Florida (PRWEB) March 04, 2015 -- Florida MEP and new affiliate F.A.S.I. conducted the pilot program of its new “First Responder” training for firefighters—the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) Systems Training® that provides firefighters and first responders with interactive, hands-on instruction on fire alarm control panels and fire alarm devices.
The Fire Alarm Systems Institute of Florida, (F.A.S.I.), an affiliate of Florida MEP, introduced the FACP program to the Florida firefighting community on February 26, 2015 in Orlando, Florida. Developed by F.A.S.I., the curriculum and interactive fire alarm control panels used in the Florida MEP training were created by a team of New England fire safety professionals with decades of experience in fire response operations, training and fire alarm systems and their components.
The Florida MEP F.A.S.I. Fire Alarm Control Panel Systems Training® program can be conducted during a half-day session held on-site at any fire station or training facility and includes instructional material and demonstration interfaces not covered in traditional firefighter training programs.
Subjects covered in the Florida MEP Fire Alarm Control Panel Systems Training® program include firefighter interface with the fire alarm control panel, conventional vs. addressable systems, different types of alarms and fire alarm systems, detection devices – how they operate and what a first responder should look for, firefighter elevator safety, the value of UL/ETL listed and FM-approved systems, firefighter exit procedure, firefighter interface with radio and 100 mil master boxes and firefighter safety on photovoltaic systems.
Hosts of the Florida MEP pilot training session that took place Feb. 26, 2015 at the Orlando Fire Department training facility located at 595 North Primrose Drive in Orlando, were Orlando Fire Department District Chief Daniel Fleming and Orlando Fire Department Training Division Assistant Chief Rudolf Johnson. Florida firefighters participating in the Florida MEP FACP Systems Training® pilot program were pleased with the information they received from the presentation and the hands-on demonstrations with actual fire alarm control panel interfaces.
Florida MEP’s President and F.A.S.I. CEO Gene Lussier said the addition of the new Fire Alarm Control Panel Systems Training® program brings a new area of expertise to the organization and fills a need to provide quality education to first responders in the latest technology of fire alarm control panels and alarm systems.
“The fire alarm systems of today are far more complex than those of the past,” said Lussier. “Since their addition to buildings, fire alarm systems have saved countless lives. While fire alarms have always been a topic for training in the past, today’s protection systems are far more sophisticated and require much more training. For example, the amount and types of equipment on the roofs of modern buildings is very significant.”
“The state of Florida has more than 23,000 active firefighters, any one of which could be a first responder to a call; it is time all receive this training to keep firefighters and the public safe, reducing risk to the first responders and the public,” said Lussier.
