Flowers for Mom; From Dandelions to Daisies, Tulips & Roses, Mother's Day is May 11th
Chandler, Arizona (PRWEB) April 23, 2014 -- As little girls go outside to play one could see in the back yards the most beautiful little yellow flowers. Remember running through the grass, bending down to sniff these pretty yellow flowers, picking them and making a big bouquet. Children would bring them to Mother. Proudly, with the flowers hidden behind the back, Mother would bend down to see what surprise was hidden. The child would bring them forward with a burst of joy, “For YOU MAMA” ”Oh, what lovely flowers” Mother would respond. All children most likely picked these same “flowers” or dandelions for Mama, too!
Mother describes a few years later, the children were still fascinated with flowers for Mom...the flowers Mr. Berendt grew in the garden next door, pink and red tulips. Living in a big white house, with steps going up to the front door, the steps had little holes in, because in the Midwest with rain and snow, the water needed to drain. Well these little holes in the porch steps, just needed something pretty. Without permission, ALL of Mr. Berendt's tulips were picked and put into these little holes in the porch steps. It sure made the porch look lovely. Then, shouting “Flowers for Mom” happiness took over, not realizing Mr. Berendt's tulips were now finished blooming for the remainder of the year.
As a Mother and Grandmother, one receives many Mother's Day Bouquets, from the grandchild’s tiny patties to the parents grown up big hands. The heart felt feelings never change: Love and devotion. It is in one's impetuous nature to offer Mother's Day gifts to the hands that nurture and love family. It warms hearts and brings a tears of joy to the eyes.
As children grow older, should that impetuous nature subside? Or should one allow the natural instinct to have guidance in ruling hearts and demonstrating love for family. Watch little children. They run, play, laugh and literally have a carefree, fun outlook on life. It is the desire of children to please others, to brighten faces, especially Mothers. Even 'big' kids when away at college, or in the armed forces, at football games, or events, will hold up signs, “Hi Mom”, “Miss You Mom”, or on holidays, “Happy Mother's Day, Mom!”
Mother's Day started in America in 1908, when Anna Jarvis of West Virginia first held a memorial to honor Mothers. Believing it so important to honor Mothers, Anna began a campaign in the United States to make Mother's Day a National Holiday. By 1914 Anna succeeded, and soon other countries followed suit; now Mother's Day is celebrated all over the world. Ms. Jarvis also thought it was important to not only honor All Mothers, and the art of Mothering, but each person's own individual Mother, Grandmother, or a particular woman who stood out or acted as a Mother figure. Since 1912, Ms Jarvis coined the phrase “Mother's Day”, and had it trademarked, along with “second Sunday in May” to ensure the date would be marked and Mothers would always be remembered on that second Sunday in May. Since then, it has been a tradition to give gifts and demonstrate love and honor. This year Mother's Day falls on May 11th, 2014.
As this special occasion approaches, think of ways to show honor to Mother, with Mother's Day flowers, bouquets, cards, gifts for mom, poems or hand-made gestures of love and affection. As a florist, one of the coolest things about Mother's Day, besides seeing hundreds of smiles on Mom's faces, is to hear and write-out all of the heartfelt messages, “To the best Mom in the world", "To the #1 Mom", "To My Mom, I can't thank you enough," ..., and you know, it's true. Every one's Mother IS THE BEST MOM in the world, to that person.
So the next time your little one brings in a bouquet of daisies, tulips, roses or even dandelions, with a smudge on the nose from sniffing the flowers, scoop them up, give them a great big kiss and say, “Flowers for Me!! I love you, too"! Because that's exactly the message they are sending. Mother's day flowers speak, when words escape! Send your message of love, this Mother's Day!
