Folkmoot USA Celebrates 30 Years - Best Mountain Festivals in North Carolina
Asheville, North Carolina (PRWEB) July 02, 2013 -- It’s almost time for this year’s Folkmoot USA to return to one of the best mountain towns - Waynesville North Carolina. Remarkably, the widely acclaimed Folkmoot USA festival is turning 30 this year! Thirty is like a fine scotch - matured to perfection. It's fascinating, captivating, and intriguing much like the festival. There are so many ways residents of gated North Carolina mountain communities benefit from this type of international themed festival in their backyard.
Folkmoot USA was started out of a desire to share cultural opportunities with the founder’s own community, Waynesville. This is a charming mountain town if you’re searching for somewhere to retire in North Carolina. The founder, Dr. Clinton Border, had accompanied a local square dancing group to a festival in England. Moved by that experience, he began to envision a similar festival in his hometown because he understood that the residents of Waynesville took great pride in their own heritage and would be able to appreciate the culture and heritage of others. After several years of research and networking, Folkmoot, which means “meeting of the people, came to fruition.
Much like the square dance group that went to participate in the festival in England, many culturally diverse groups from around the world come to participate in the Folkmoot USA festival giving residents of Sunset Falls at Bald Creek and all of the surrounding gated North Carolina mountain communities the opportunity to learn and celebrate other nationalities through folk music and dance. During the last 29 years, over 200 different groups have traveled to the best mountain town of Waynesville, to participate in this acclaimed event.
The countries invited to showcase their unique cultures at this year’s special 30th Anniversary festival are: France, Martinique, Thailand, Japan, Slovakia, Mexico, Canada, and Paraguay. As always, the festival promises to be exciting! There will be events and performances at a variety of venues every day of the two week extravaganza. In addition to the live performances each day, some of the notable events are:
Family Night on July 17
