Fonsekart Heads to the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Fair with an Exciting Collection of Icons in Tow
(PRWEB) September 30, 2014 -- Fonseca’s love for the arts began at the age of five with sketches in pencil and later led to oil on canvas subsequently at the age of fifteen. A fortuitous opening in college at Universidad Iberoamericana prompted mentorship from Rafael Zuñiga, an artist from Mexico proficient in painting angels and archangels. Although early educational beginnings instilled theoretical models in fine arts, Fonseca is largely self taught with an intuitive understanding of abstract technique especially in mixed media arts which, after graduation led to a presentation in conjunction with Lupita Romay, Victoria Salmones and Julio Angeles all of whom are aquarelle drawers --a technique best described as consistent with painting in transparent rather than opaque watercolours.
A chance encounter with the celebrated and self-taught painter Carlos Fernandez Trillo incited experimentation with different types of materials such as pigments, acrylics, chalk, brie (Chapopote) and Wood, and oxidized car parts on canvas. Fonseca's self imposed five year master class in mixed media techniques soon led to a sold out solo expo in Veracruz and later Acapulco, in which he presents Perspectives, twenty art pieces made with pigments, including acrylic and bamboo.
With a fresh take on art and life, Fonseca presents more work from 2004 onward in the Mexican Caribe with solo exhibits in Cozumel, a collective expo in Chiapas and another in Puebla where he lived for seven years before meeting his wife. Fonseca now resides in Cancun where he has successfully produced and exhibited his works in various parts of the Caribbean and in Mexico.
Today, Fonsekart’s work is mixed media, reminiscent of Warhol’s printmaking and photography technique coupled with Jackson Pollock’s experimental workshop with acrylic splatter and dripping paint --sometimes on wood canvas -- always inspired by Caribbean colours and images of icons smiling and in their happiest moments.
“The colours represent joyous Caribbean energy” says Fonseca “my focus remains on icons who have served to enlighten us through their legendary efforts and their ideas smiling even through pain.”
