Foot and Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic, LLC Podiatrist Featured in WTOP News
Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 15, 2015 -- Dr. Lee E. Firestone (DC-K and Chevy Chase locations) was recently featured in an article about the damage flip-flops can cause after extensive wear. As the “unofficial footwear of summer,” these shoes provide very little support or protection. Dr. Firestone says that “these flimsy minimalist sandals leave the toes especially exposed to injury” and “they don’t provide much in the way of support, leaving those who wear them on a regular basis more prone to problems like Achilles tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis - the most common cause of heel pain.”
“I find that people come in on Monday morning with a toenail that is half on and half off because they have caught it on something over the weekend,” he says, adding “they have layers of tape and band-aids holding the toenail in place, with a level of desperation on their faces.”
Instead, Dr. Firestone recommends American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA)-approved sandal brands Vionic and Naot to his patients, which provide solid support and comfort.
