Foot and Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic, LLC Podiatrist Named Co-Vice President of the American Association for Women Podiatrists
Chevy Chase, MD (PRWEB) August 21, 2015 -- Foot and Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic, LLC podiatrist Alison J. Garten, DPM (Chevy Chase and DC-K Street Divisions), was recently named Co-Vice President of the American Association for Women Podiatrists (AAWP) during the 2015 American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Annual Scientific Meeting, held in Orlando, FL. She was also named Corporate Sponsorship Chair for the 2016 AAWP scientific meeting in Naples, FL. FASMA podiatrist and former past president of AAWP, Erika Schwartz, DPM, also of FASMA’s Chevy Chase and DC-K Street Divisions, was named the Scientific Chair for the AAWP Academic Conference scheduled to take place in Naples, Florida in October 2016. The AAWP is a related organization of the APMA and was a recognized exhibitor at the event, presenting a lecture session entitled “Achieving Better Outcomes: Unique Biomechanical Medical and Hormonal Issues in Female Patients.”
Dr. Alison J. Garten is a native of Cary, North Carolina. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, where she played Division I tennis on a full scholarship. She completed her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Garten completed two years of podiatric medicine and surgical residency at Montgomery Hospital in the Philadelphia area. She then continued her training at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, which provided further extensive training in foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, diabetic limb salvage, elective forefoot and rearfoot reconstruction, and management of in-house patients with vast medical issues. Dr. Garten is a certified Pedorthist and Board-Certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. She serves as a member of the District of Columbia Board of Podiatry, as well as Co-Vice President of the American Association for Women Podiatrists. Dr. Garten often lectures on topics related to the foot and ankle, as well as diabetic wound care. Her passions in medicine revolve around promoting physical activity for injury prevention and improved overall health and happiness.
Dr. Erika M. Schwartz is a native of Long Island, New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University and her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. She completed three years of surgical residency training at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, where she was chief resident in Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Schwartz is Board-Certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. She is the past President of the American Association for Women Podiatrists, and is the District of Columbia Public Relations Chairperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association. As an APMA spokesperson, she has been featured throughout multimedia, including the 'Washington Post', 'Prevention Magazine', and DC Channel 5 News. Dr. Schwartz is a member of the Residency Clinical Competency and Education Committee for the Podiatric Surgical Residency Training Program at the Washington Hospital Center. She was recognized by her peers and colleagues in the 'Washingtonian Magazine' as a top DC Podiatrist (2012). She has privileges at the Washington Hospital Center, Medstar Surgical Center, and Massachusetts Avenue Surgical Center.
