For Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, Adventure To Fitness Says To “Shine Spotlight On Prevention” Too
New York City, NY (PRWEB) September 18, 2013 -- President Barack Obama may have proclaimed September National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, but a startup in New York City that has quickly risen to become the most-used educational fitness program in American schools says we must also place an emphasis on action and prevention.
“To be somewhat blunt, awareness will only get us so far in this battle,” said Michael Rhattigan, Chief Adventure Officer of Adventure to Fitness. “The obesity epidemic in America is very well known and documented at this point. At Adventure to Fitness, we try to shine a spotlight on prevention by providing tools and executable steps that empower kids and parents with ways to fight obesity and live overall healthier lives.”
During the month of September, the company has launched several initiatives to help live up to their mission statement: “Inspiring children to lead healthy lifestyles through imagination, education, and movement!” In addition to discounting all of the products for their home customers, the company has also launched a campaign for their school program. Any teacher using the program that gets all of the teachers in her school signed up will receive free fitness videos for kids for all of the students in her class.
“I was excited to hear about the Obesity Month campaign, and I hope it causes even more teachers to start using the program” said Cal Violette, principal from Gray’s Creek Elementary, Hope, Mills, NC, referencing the 22 classroom teachers already using the episodes in their classes at his school and over 80,000 teachers nationwide. “The kids in my school have really benefited. The DVD gifts that Adventure to Fitness is providing to students are a wonderful gesture, as they give our kids an easy and reliable way to stay active at home, too.”
Adventure to Fitness produces and streams animated, live-action, educational-fitness exercise videos for kids online. Each episode embarks on a global adventure while integrating academic facts from topics such as science, geography, and social studies along the way. In an episode on China, for instance, the live-action leader “Mr. Marc” leads a climb up the Great Wall while discussing the science and history behind it in a light-hearted and approachable tone for kids. Kids move-in-place during each 30-minute episode to help schools fulfill activity mandates, and the academic portions of the program help fulfill common-core curriculum standards set by the US Department of Education.
