Fordham IP Institute: A Conversation with Prof. William E. Kovacic: Perspectives from a Former FTC Chairman & Senior Academic
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 17, 2015 -- The Fordham Intellectual Property Institute invites you to join us on February 26, 2015, for "A Conversation with Prof. William E. Kovacic: Perspectives from a Former FTC Chairman & Senior Academic." The event will be moderated by Prof. Hugh C. Hansen (Director, Fordham IP Institute). The discussion will focus on the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property law, in particular, standard essential patents, patent litigation brought by non-practicing entities, the European Commission’s investigation of Google search, and how the FTC will pursue pending reverse-payment cases in light of FTC v. Activis, 133 S. Ct. 2223 (2013).
Prof. Kovacic has had a significant career in government service at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Early in his legal career, he worked at the FTC from 1979 to 1983, and would later rejoin the agency as General Counsel from 2001 to 2004. In 2006, he was appointed as a FTC Commissioner and served until 2011, including one year as FTC Chairman. In 2011, he received the FTC’s Miles W. Kirkpatrick Award for Lifetime Achievement. In addition, Prof. Kovacic has advised a number of countries and international organizations on antitrust, consumer protection, government contracts, and the design of regulatory institutions, including most recently, as a Non-Executive Director with the United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority.
Prof. Kovacic began his academic career at George Mason University School of Law in 1986 before joining George Washington University Law School in 1999. At George Washington, Prof. Kovacic has taught antitrust, contracts, and government contracts, and authored numerous publications in these areas of law.
