Fordham University School of Professional and Continuing Studies Projects Exponential Growth of Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med/Pre-Health Program
NEW YORK (PRWEB) April 09, 2018 -- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment is projected to increase by 11.5 million over the 2016-2026 decade, with health care industries expected to account for a large share of new jobs created during that period.
The Fordham University School of Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) offers a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med/Pre-Health Program for college graduates interested in a career in health care professions who need prerequisite science courses. As a result of the ongoing demand for health care professionals across specialties, the program has seen 33% growth since last spring. With the appointment of Laura Bigaouette as Program Director in September, PCS is looking forward to continued expansion to support the growing student body.
“Demand for healthcare is only going to increase as the population gets older. We want to ensure we are meeting the need for professionals in these fields by offering an educational program that will set them up for future success,” said Ms. Bigaouette, who joined PCS with more than 17 years of experience in higher education and tech industry programming. Prior to joining Fordham, she spent 10 years at Manhattanville College in a variety of roles. She previously has also held positions with Telcordia Technologies and Verizon Communications (formerly Bell Atlantic).
“What drew me to Fordham was the personal approach we are able to provide, which is something you can’t always find in a program like this,” she continued. “We pride ourselves on the fact that we’re able to work closely with students and help them get into the classes they need, when they need them, in order to complete the program at their own pace. We look forward to continued success, including the future growth at our Westchester campus.”
Classes and labs are currently offered at Fordham’s Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses. Beginning fall 2018, Fordham will offer Chemistry and Biology courses at the West Harrison campus. Dependent on interest, PCS may explore expanding the program by offering more science classes in Westchester moving forward.
Fordham’s Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med/Pre-Health Program offers pre-med curriculum in the evening during the academic year and summer sessions to prepare students for application to medical, dental, veterinary, nursing, physician assistant or physical therapy programs. Class sizes typically range from 10 to 30 students, with majority of evening class enrollment comprising of students in the program. Students are able to start taking courses in any semester and take the program at their own pace.
