Former Acme Packet CEO Andy Ory Joins Thinking Phone Networks Board of Directors
Cambridge, Mass. (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Thinking Phone Networks, the leader in unified communications as a service (UCaaS), today announced that Andy Ory, former CEO of Acme Packet prior to its acquisition by Oracle Corporation in March 2013 ($2.1 billion), has joined its board of directors. The addition of Ory to its board follows an announcement by the company made earlier this month of Series C investment by existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners and Advanced Technology Ventures.
“Andy Ory is widely recognized as a communications industry visionary,” said Steve Kokinos, president and CEO, Thinking Phone Networks. “Andy presided over the first wave of disruption in the communications market. His experience will be critical as we meet the challenges of the next wave of disruption brought about by the cloud, mobility, global workforces, and end user driven IT adoption.”
Ory is a co-founder of Acme Packet and served as president and chief executive officer from its inception to its acquisition by Oracle. During Andy’s 13-year tenure, he spearheaded Acme Packet’s growth from a young startup, from pioneering a new product category and technology called session border control, to dominating that category and delivering session delivery networks. Prior to founding Acme Packet, Andy was the founder, CEO, and chairman of Priority Call Management, which produced network-based solutions that allowed service providers to offer prepaid calling, enhanced messaging, and one-number services.
“I am looking forward to working with Steve and the entire Thinking Phone Networks management team to take advantage of the global opportunity in cloud communications,” said Ory. “The legacy communications industry is ripe for change. Companies can no longer support the capital intensive systems they have in place. They need to move to the cloud to address the fundamental ways workforces want to acquire and use technology today – more global, more mobile, more social, and more intuitive.”
