Former Boston Red Sox Shareholder, David B. Hawkes, Launches New Website, DavidWizard.com
Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 11, 2015 -- David B. Hawkes and his son, Walter Hawkes, have just launched a new family & small business financial blog called, DavidWizard.com. The site includes the story of how David, who grew up poor in Maine, went on to become the co-founder of the entity that purchased the Boston Red Sox in 2002.
David B. Hawkes, grew up in Lovell, Maine (population 800 in the winter). Born into a family of modest means, David learned the value of hard work from an early age. The summer after his father had a heart attack and became ill with complications, David went to work as a caddie on the local golf course, biking the four miles to and from his home, seven days per week, carrying double. He hoped for a $1 tip.
The summer David was 14 he went to work at Kimball and Walker’s General Store in the village where he lived, working 60 hours a week for $30 in cash. In the evening he mowed several lawns for additional money. David was able from the time he was 13, to purchase his own clothes and provide his own spending money - something that became required as his dad died of a heart attack when David was just 14.
So how does a man of humble beginnings end up owning a minority share of the Boston Red Sox? David’s charisma, perseverance and hard work brought him to a very special place, in October of 2000 - his professional knowledge, pool of contacts—including Les Otten, Severin Bellevieu, Senator George Mitchell—and his love of baseball sparked a conversation that forever changed his life. That, and protracted negotiations with John Henry, the majority owner...
David is happy to share rest of the story on his newly launched website, Davidwizard.com, a web site he's started with his youngest son, Walter. There you will find other interesting stories from David's 30+ year career in the financial and tax world trenches.
