Former Bronco Brandon Stokely to Attend STAR Center’s Playground Rock Family Event
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) July 29, 2013 -- STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center’s 2nd Annual Playground Rock is a fun family-friendly fundraising event that takes place on their new sensory playground, built specifically for use in therapy sessions with children who have Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, emotional and behavioral disorders, sensory-based learning disorders, and other developmental issues. Money raised at this event will help fund continued research programs at STAR Center and the SPD Foundation, allowing us to define effective treatments.
SPD is a neurological disorder that disrupts the way an individual processes and responds to sensations. It affects the daily activities and relationships of more than one out of twenty children and adults, impairing quality of life.
“Imagine having a child who has anxiety attacks at every family gathering or birthday party, who has been expelled from pre-school because of disruptive behavior, who finds your hugs unbearable. This behavior is reality for more than four million children in the United States alone—an average of one child in every classroom,” said Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, Founder and Clinical Director of STAR Center. “Our vision is to be the most innovative and effective treatment facility for children with SPD and their families in the world.”
Guest of honor, Brandon Stokely, is just one of many exciting things planned for this event. There will be a unique obstacle course on the playground along with face painting, games, activities, a bouncy house, food and music.
