Former NCDOT Attorneys Give Seminar for Property Owners Impacted by I-295 Outer Loop

Fayetteville, NC (PRWEB) September 29, 2016 -- Over 200 Fayetteville property owners will lose land soon as a result of the final three phases of the long-planned I-295 Fayetteville Outer Loop (a $678 million project), according to NC Eminent Domain Law Firm attorney Kenneth Bryan.

The final path of this project will stretch from Cliffdale Road in Cumberland County to I-95 in Robeson County.

Even though many of these property owners have waited years for the NCDOT to make them an offer, they potentially risk getting offers for far less than what their property is worth.

Property Owners in the Way of Fayetteville Outer Loop
While the I-295 Fayetteville Outer Loop creates an expedient route for travelers, residents, and military personnel to quickly access I-95, the toll on property and business owners in its path shouldn’t be forgotten.

“The importance of the project shouldn’t lead to hard-working property owners losing their property for pennies on the dollar,” said Campbell. “As our leaders plan the final phases of the Fayetteville Outer Loop, it is essential that they do right by these property owners and help them become as whole as possible.”

“Property owners will receive a very official-looking offer, and some might think that offer is the final word for what they are able to receive,” Campbell said. “If an offer is too low, you can negotiate and fight for more money.”

“Second Check”
By North Carolina law, property owners whose land or businesses are targeted for acquisition ultimately receive an offer from the state. If the owner chooses not to accept the offer, the state will still acquire the land by filing a lawsuit and will deposit the money with the court. What many property owners don’t realize is that they can withdraw the money, put it in their pocket, and try to negotiate for more.
