Former NextEnergy Detroit Revitalization Fellows Move to Leading Detroit-based Organizations
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) March 11, 2014 -- Former NextEnergy employees and Detroit Revitalization Fellows, Erin Kelly and Katy Wyerman have accepted positions with leading Detroit-based organizations.
Kelly and Wyerman came to NextEnergy through Wayne State University’s Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program (DRFP). The DRFP provides employment opportunities to young professionals at Detroit organizations. DRFP also provides executive-style education, coaching, leadership development and opportunities to work on many of the city’s economic and urban development initiatives.
After two years at NextEnergy, Kelly and Wyerman recently accepted positions at leading Detroit-based organizations. Kelly now works as the program manager for blue green infrastructure at Detroit Future City and Wyerman works as the director of resource development at the Belle Isle Conservancy.
“It is with great pride that NextEnergy announces that two of our Detroit Revitalization Fellows have moved on to Detroit-based jobs,” said Jean Redfield, NextEnergy president and CEO. “The DRFP’s purpose is to attract the best and brightest talent to Detroit. With that, I would say it was a success in attracting Erin Kelly and Katy Wyerman who came to Detroit from out of state. Both were important assets to NextEnergy’s team and we are glad they have chosen to stay and make a positive impact with two outstanding organizations.”
The DRFP was created with support and contributions from the Kresge Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Hudson-Webber Foundation, the Skillman Foundation, the DTE Energy Foundation and Wayne State University. The program was designed to provide additional capacity to key organizations focused on revitalization of Detroit, provide leadership development and training experience to fellows, and develop a network that fosters inter-agency connections and collaboration.
Redfield continued, “At NextEnergy, Erin and Katy were able to lay the groundwork for their future. Katy led an initiative to develop public private partnerships for Patton Park and is now with the Belle Isle Conservancy. Erin led demolition and deconstruction research and pilots, and now has the chance to be part of the implementation through the Detroit Future City team."
Kelly and Wyerman were part of the first cohort of the DRFP pilot program, which came to a close in 2013. The DRFP brought the second group to Detroit in August 2013. For additional information about the DRFP, visit detroitfellows.wayne.edu.
