Former senior White House official Evan S. Medeiros joins Eurasia Group as Managing Director, Asia
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 14, 2015 -- Dr. Evan S. Medeiros, former Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the White House’s National Security Council (NSC), has joined Eurasia Group as Managing Director and Practice Head for Asia, effective 21 September.
Based in Washington, D.C., Dr. Medeiros will lead Eurasia Group’s coverage of the Asia-Pacific, a region that offers unprecedented opportunities for global business. Eurasia Group’s Asia team – the firm’s largest practice group – helps clients understand and navigate Asia’s developed and emerging markets by assessing risk and formulating strategies and tactics to take advantage of opportunities.

As President Obama’s top advisor on the Asia‐Pacific until June 2015, Dr. Medeiros was responsible for coordinating U.S. policy toward Asia across the areas of diplomacy, defense policy, economic policy and intelligence affairs. He joined the NSC in 2009 as Director for China, Taiwan and Mongolian Affairs. During his six years at the White House, he was instrumental in several major policy initiatives: developing the concept for the 2013 U.S.-China Sunnylands Summit and the President’s successful visit to China in November 2014, planning Japanese Prime Minister Abe’s historic state visit to Washington in April this year, modernizing key alliances with South Korea, Australia and the Philippines, and expanding U.S. ties with key Southeast Asian partners including Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Prior to the NSC, Dr. Medeiros was a senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation and served in the Treasury Department as an adviser on China. He is the author of several books and journal articles including “China’s International Behavior: Activism, Opportunism and Diversification.”
Dr. Medeiros received a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an M.A. from the School of Oriental and African Studies, an M.Phil from the University of Cambridge (as a Fulbright Scholar), and a B.A. from Bates College. He speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese.
