Former Washington Post Publisher Weymouth Joins FiscalNote Advisory Board
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) April 15, 2015 -- FiscalNote today announced the addition of Katharine Weymouth, former Washington Post publisher, to the company’s Board of Advisors.
Weymouth, who simultaneously served as CEO of Washington Post Media, brings expertise in media and publishing to the board. In her role as advisor, she will serve as a resource during a period of tremendous growth for FiscalNote.
“As we continue to grow we look forward to working more closely with publishers. We plan to take the insights discovered using our products and disseminate these to consumers,” said CEO Tim Hwang.
“We’re excited that Katharine’s experience with new forms of content will help inform our approach. Her knowledge of the Washington political and media scene will be invaluable.”
After taking the helm of the Washington Post in 2008, Weymouth led the merging of the newspaper’s print and web staffs to form a cohesive newsroom during a turbulent time in the news industry. Her ushering of the news dissemination process towards new media and digital-first is one reason Hwang noted for her addition.
"I am excited to join the FiscalNote Board of Advisors. The company’s mission of unlocking data to make it useful is a tenet shared by journalism,” Weymouth said. “I am eager to use my experience and relationships to help the FiscalNote team make their products visible to a wider audience."
The fifth generation of her family to serve as publisher of the Washington Post, she left her position there in October 2014, one year after selling the company to Jeff Bezos. Her tenure ended during record-high traffic to the newspaper’s website.
Weymouth becomes the ninth member of the FiscalNote Board of Advisors. She joins LegalZoom CEO John Suh; Alec Ross, former Senior Advisor for Innovation at the State Department; Gen. Stanley McChrystal, retired United States Army general; Sheel Tyle of NEA; Mike Ferguson, former congressman from New Jersey; Glenn Hubbard, Dean of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business; Bruce Mehlman, managing partner of Mehlman Castagnetti; and Tony Ng, Director of Architecture at eBay.
FiscalNote is backed by Renren, Mark Cuban, NEA, Jerry Yang’s AME Cloud Ventures, First Round’s Dorm Room Fund, and Series A lead investor Visionnaire Ventures.
FiscalNote recently announced the upcoming launch of its second product, Sonar, which will allow users to search, track, and analyze the entirety of the federal regulatory regime and gain the critical insights they need to do their jobs better and more efficiently.
The company’s first product, Prophecy, is real-time online platform that tracks, monitors, and forecasts the outcome of state and federal legislation. By aggregating and presenting the many different pieces of legislative data from across the country onto its online platform, Prophecy provides the tools for effective and efficient decision making.
