The fourth annual Savannah Stopover Music Festival kicked off the springtime musical scene on March 6th through 8th. In that short amount of time the event proved to be one of spring’s most important music festivals, drawing fans to the Georgia coast to see hot indie bands from all over. The festival takes advantage of various venues around the historic district and presents more than 100 acts in just three days.
The Savannah Music Festival has been steadily growing for 25 years. This year the event will fill three weeks from March 20th to April 5th with more than 80 concerts. At multiple venues all within the walkable historic district, musicians from around the nation and the world will perform jazz, country, folk, blues, roots, classical and many other kinds of music. It is important to note that this is the largest musical arts event in Georgia, and one of the most distinctive cross-genre music festivals in the world. That’s why it continues to blossom!
The SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design, annual alumni concerts in Forsyth Park honor new alumni and their achievements at SCAD. The Alumni Concert always includes fun and lively acts and typically takes place in the month of May. It’s a great way to say goodbye the students and bring together the community; the event is always free and open to the public.
The first Savannah Jazz Festival was held at historic Grayson Stadium on October 1st of 1983 and it is still thriving each and every year since then. Join the city for the 2014 Savannah Jazz Festival on September 21st through 27th. Sponsored by the Coastal Jazz Association, the event makes it their mission to include all citizens, rich and poor, black and white, performers and non-performers; the objective is to have the entire city enjoy the fruits of playing and listening to America’s own and only indigenous art form: Jazz.
The Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra is the city’s very own professional orchestra; they present a full range of concerts each season, September to May, from classics to pops.
