Fort Lauderdale Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center Expands Successful Family Night Events
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) June 03, 2014 -- Family Night at Cornerstone Recovery Center in Fort Lauderdale is moving to twice a month starting in June. The next Family Night event will be hosted at Cornerstone’s Fort Lauderdale drug and alcohol rehab center from 6:00pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, June 6, 2014.
Family Night is all about family members and loved ones of those in recovery meeting others who are having similar experiences and includes an open process group led by addiction recovery therapist Barbara Hernandez, MS, LMHC. The next Family Night event will also feature guest speakers Chris and Darrell Smethie, who will be sharing their story with the group.
Beginning this month, Family Night will be held twice a week on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The second Family Night for this month will be held on June 20, 2014. As always, family members and loved ones of those who are currently attending or have been in Cornerstone’s recovery programs are invited to attend; however, it is now also open to anyone that wants to learn about addiction recovery. The staff at Cornerstone Recovery Center is excited to expand their recovery and rehabilitation services to more of the South Florida community.
Last month’s event was very engaging, and many participants felt they could have benefited from a longer group meeting, which may be part of future meetings. Participants varied in age from teenagers through adults, each with unique and very useful input and perspectives on addiction and recovery. Participants included people in recovery, NAR-ANON members, and many individuals with loved ones who have co-occurring disorders. This is an excellent environment for asking questions or sharing opinions and thoughts. Topics discussed during the Family Night event in May included:
• Importance of maintenance for the addict in recovery
• 12-step Fellowship involvement
• Enabling
• Co-dependency
• Self-care
• Detaching with love
Cornerstone staff members were very happy to see families exchanging phone numbers and contact information and making commitments to attend future Family Night events together. One group discussion participant stated, “This is exactly what I needed”. Another participant said, “Thank you for sharing and saying what you said, it is good to know that I am not alone”.
