Four women receive Oxford Diploma scholarships
Oxford, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 14 February 2015 -- Four scholarships have been awarded to women for the Oxford Diplomas in Strategic Management at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. From working in social impact in Myanmar to consulting for the World Bank in Pakistan, the scholarship winners have all demonstrated excellence and strong leadership qualities in their chosen careers.
‘The Oxford Diplomas provide an opportunity for women to accelerate their careers to the most senior levels,’ said Kathy Harvey, Director of Oxford Executive Degree Programmes. ‘The Diploma scholarships for women aim to raise awareness of the benefits of business education for aspiring women leaders, while also encouraging and assisting women to achieve boardroom performance.’
Each scholarship winner will be joining a different Oxford Diploma which enables them to specialise and develop in specific areas, such as Global Business, Financial Strategy, Strategy and Innovation, and Organisational Leadership.
Vardah Malik, a Development Finance Consultant for the World Bank in Pakistan, has been awarded the scholarship for the Oxford Diploma in Financial Strategy. Vardah explains ‘The Diploma scholarship for women made it possible for me to find a place on this prestigious course and has been instrumental in motivating many women like me to continue their education, bringing new vision and commitment to the area of specialised financial strategy. I hope to equip myself with the in-depth knowledge and technical tools critical for innovative and successful investment programmes’.
‘I feel happy and honoured to be awarded the scholarship for the Oxford Diploma in Global Business. I see this scholarship as a strong encouragement to dare to explore an area that is often perceived as masculine,’ says Cristina Mosneaga, a Programme Manager for the EU Delegation to the Republic of Congo. ‘I chose this Diploma because I work for a public international organisation and I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of how relationships between the private and the public, the business and the not-for-profit occur.’
Gvantsa Murghvliani will be joining the Oxford Diploma in Organisational Leadership; she currently works as a Lean Transformation Manager and also Merger Project Coordinator at TBC Bank in Georgia. Gvantsa says ‘As a mid-level, female manager with 10 year’s work experience in banking, I believe encouraging women to pursue leadership roles is vital as the gender gap, especially in executive positions, is still visible in many corporations. I hope the Diploma will equip me with the strong theoretical background to challenge my current working environment and will provide me with answers to the issues and concerns I face on a day-to-day basis.’
Phyu Hninn is the Head of Knowledge and Social Impact Team at Proximity Designs, a social enterprise working with smallholder farm families in rural Myanmar. Phyu has been awarded the scholarship for the Oxford Diploma in Strategy and Innovation. ‘I am hoping to learn from the rich experiences of the faculty and my fellow classmates and apply this knowledge to my work bringing impactful products and services to rural farmers in Myanmar,’ she said. The global epidemic of gender in-equality in leadership positions is felt acutely in South East Asia so I am hoping to use the skills I learn at Oxford to inspire other women to lead the way in addressing the challenges facing my country.’
‘We are delighted that Cristina, Vardah, Phyu and Gvantsa will be joining the Oxford Diplomas,’ said Kathy Harvey. ‘Their passion for their chosen careers and determination to succeed as business leaders is inspiring. They are all brilliant role models and we look forward to welcoming them on to their respective programmes.’
The Oxford Diplomas are taught in four modules, each of four days allowing participants to continue to work while studying. The modules are components of the Oxford Executive MBA and there is the potential for participants to broaden their business knowledge further by progressing to study the full Executive MBA programme, from which they are exempt from the four similar modules of the Diploma.
