Fox Run at Orchard Park Showcases New Community Member of the Month
Orchard Park, NY (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- Fox Run at Orchard Park is now featuring a new community member of the month on their website. This month, Jack Mescal is sharing his story.
At 89 years old, Mescal has lived a full and enriching life. Born in Buffalo, Mescal became an orphan at the age of five. As a teenager, Mescal went to war and took part in the Normandy invasion, becoming an American hero, although he’ll never admit it.
Mescal met his wife, Gerty, in Munch. Together, they lived in Elma for 46 years before deciding to move into a Fox Run apartment. Unfortunately, Gerty passed away before the move. As a wife, Gerty was a great housekeeper and cook. Mescal is appreciative of the housekeeping services and great food provided at Fox Run Orchard Park, lessening the burden of Gerty’s loss a little bit.
Mescal says, “Cleaning up after cooking is almost as bad as cooking.”
With cooking and cleaning taken care of, Mescal has time to experience the things he enjoys most in life. At Fox Run, Mescal enjoys interacting with the people he has made his friends.
“They’re almost like a second family, a very big family,” Mescal says.
In his spare time, Mescal is an avid gardener, woodworker, piano player and guitar player. In the woodworking shop, he crafts some of his own furniture. In the gardens, he digs his own flowerbeds and even takes care of some of his neighbors’ as well. Once a year, he travels back to Munich, just like he used to do often with Gerty.
“It’s a pretty good lifestyle here,” says Mescal, “and if I go to Europe, I can just close the door and not worry about anything.”
