Francis Asbury Manor to Host 20th Annual Walk on Grandparents’ Day
Ocean Grove, NJ (PRWEB) August 10, 2014 -- If there’s one group that have always stood by their loved ones, it’s grandmas and grandpas. On September 7, people will have the opportunity to Do Something Grand for Grandparents’ Day at the 20th annual Walk for All Ages. National Grandparents’ Day directly relates to the Homes’ focus on seniors. The intergenerational charity event benefits the Fellowship Fund, a financial safety net for the United Methodist Homes’ residents. Walk registration runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Francis Asbury Manor located at 70 Stockton Avenue in Ocean Grove.
The 107.1FM radio van will be onsite during registration with contests, prizes and music. The walk, a 1.2-mile stroll through the Victorian town, begins at 1 p.m. The day includes games, kite-flying, face painting, prizes, entertainment, tent tours, and more. The $15.00 per walker registration fee entitles each to a t-shirt, string back pack filled with goodies, lunch and entertainment. Pre-registration is encouraged for both individuals and teams and can be completed at http://www.umhnjwalk.org.
For over 107 years, the Homes has upheld residents who have outlived their financial resources. Many participants, who have personally contributed and/or raised support from others, feel motivated because of the care given to a family member. The forget-me-not is the official flower of Grandparents’ Day. In recognition of the national celebration and the walk’s goal, each Homes’ community has made forget-me-not cards available. Donors complete the cards with the names of older adults they wish to honor or memorialize. All cards will be displayed on September 7.
Joyce Nelson of Westfield, a multi-year walker, offered, “Even when I was much younger, I liked to support seniors, because they have knowledge and give you good advice.” A teen participant remarked, “Grandparents are like angels. They take you under their wings. They pray and watch over you and will give you most anything!”
The public is invited to register to walk, form a team, become a business partner, share on social media, and donate online at http://www.umhnjwalk.org or in-person on September 7. The Grand Marshal Partner is Hawks & Company of Deptford, New Jersey. Neptune Township Mayor Michael Brantley; Martin A. Rosica, president of Hawks & Company; and Lawrence Carlson, president and CEO of United Methodist Homes, will lead walkers as the Grand Marshals.
