Freire Charter School Celebrates College Acceptance With Parade Through Center City
(PRWEB) June 11, 2014 -- Freire Charter School, a public charter school since 1999 that has been unlocking the potential of some of Philadelphia’s most underserved youth, today announced that it will hold its Second Annual Senior College Parade through the downtown streets of Center City, Philadelphia. Approximately 100 Freire seniors will wear colorful matching T-shirts and, while holding posters of the colleges and universities they will attend in the fall, will march in celebration to Freire’s middle school campus for a pep rally.
The Second Annual Senior College Parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Freire Charter School High School, 2027 Chestnut Street, proceed to Broad Street, then north through City Hall courtyard, and then east to Market Street. The Parade will conclude at Freire Charter School Middle School at 1026 Market Street.
“We are so proud of our graduating seniors and grateful for this opportunity to join them in celebrating their acceptance to college,” said Kelly Davenport, Head of School at Freire Charter School. “Many of our 2014 graduates have overcome tremendous obstacles in their lives, and for some, they will be the first in their families to attend college. This is an incredible achievement and they deserve every bit of recognition for their hard work and commitment.”
The entire high school staff will join the graduating seniors, also wearing colorful matching T-shirts, and line the parade route at various intersections. Pedestrians and motorists will be encouraged to cheer and honk for the graduating seniors.
