Friends of Science Society Releases New Video that Challenges Ecojustice on their False Choice Café On Oil Transport and Climate Change

Calgary, Alberta, Canada (PRWEB) September 15, 2016 -- Friends of Science Society has released an amusing new video that challenges the Ecojustice blog post of Aug. 25, 2016, entitled “Welcome to the False Choice Café” that frames crude oil transportation options as a false choice in the face of climate change and green energy. The Friends new video exposes the fallacy that green energy is green – through the clever use of chocolate and statistics from Vaclav Smil’s Feb. 29, 2016, IEEE Spectrum article “To Get Wind Power You Need Oil.”

“We look at the evidence over the ideology,” says Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science. “In all areas of Western society, public health, food security, sanitation, freedoms, literacy and recreational options have blossomed, thanks to hydrocarbons. All ‘green’ alternatives require massive amounts of oil, natural gas and coal.”

Indeed, StatsCanada shows an average Canadian increase in longevity from 59 years of age in 1920 to about 80 years in 2002 since the advent of widespread hydrocarbon use. YourEnvironment.ca shows city by city in Canada that air quality has significantly improved in the past 30 years as well and there’s been no significant change in climate.

“People are dying in developing nations because they lack access to the power of coal, natural gas and oil for public sanitation, pumped water, effluent treatment and modern hospital facilities,” says Stirling. “Canada has all those resources in abundance and can elevate the world – if we can just get to market. How is it ‘just’ to block that?”

Canada’s vast resource base, particularly oil, is presently landlocked due to confrontations by anti-oil activists over pipelines to the east and west coasts. Fortune Magazine Aug. 29, 2016. Many of these anti-oil activist groups are funded by offshore interests, according to research by Vivian Krause, creating a “Great Green Trade Barrier” as reported in Alberta Oil Magazine on July 2, 2014.

In the past, the Keystone XL pipeline, intended to take Canadian oil south to Texas refineries, was blocked, largely by billionaire green investor/activist Thomas Steyer, who claimed oil exports from Canada would undercut the US economy in this Bloomberg article of Sept, 8, 2013.

“As Richard Tol has pointed out, ‘a century of climate change is not worse than losing a decade of economic growth,’” says Stirling. “Climate hysteria is used to justify anything – but clearly no one is blocking hydrocarbon imports to the EU; pipeline construction goes on in the US; US tankers come and go, even to Canadian ports. A Nov. 13, 2014 article in the Daily Caller by Alex Epstein would seem to confirm the view that fossil fuel use is beneficial and not as damaging as climate catastrophe activists claim.
