Friendship Village In Illinois Has Donated $2000 For Academic Scholarships
(PRWEB) February 19, 2015 -- For the second consecutive year, the arts and crafts committee at Friendship Village Schaumburg, has donated $2000 to the Friendship Senior Options Foundation to help support academic scholarships for area graduating seniors.
The arts and crafts committee is completely resident-driven. With a reputation for benevolence, the arts and crafts committee has created hand-made pillows for residents in Friendship Village’s healthcare center and for veterans at Hines VA, blankets for sick children through Project Linus, and more. Of the more than 30 clubs and organizations at Friendship Village, it is also among the only revenue-generating committees. Money is raised through sales of their handcrafted items, as well as through clothing alterations that members of the committee make for fellow residents of Friendship Village. Generally, the money raised is used to purchase supplies for projects, but the decision was made to also use it to support FSO’s scholarship initiative.
Friendship Senior Options sponsors Friendship Village of Schaumburg and GreenFields of Geneva. Both retirement communities have strong ties to young people through their intergenerational programming as well as the employment of high school students. The scholarships are sponsored by Friendship Senior Options Foundation which supports a variety of educational opportunities for residents, associates and people in the community.
