Friendship Village Introduces Friendly Remedies Pharmacy, First of Its Kind In An Illinois Retirement Community
Schaumburg, IL (PRWEB) July 08, 2015 -- When needing to drop off prescriptions or pick up medications, residents are not able to do so from within the comfort and convenience of their Friendship Village of Schaumburg home. The retirement community opened its Friendly Remedies pharmacy on June 24, 2015. The first of its kind in a retirement community in Illinois, Friendly Remedies, which is operated by Symbria Rx Services, offers both on-site, and telepharmacy services to independent living residents.
The idea for the pharmacy came about as management was considering ways to maximize convenience for Friendship Village residents. “With various dining venues, a state of the art fitness and aquatic center, a library, a gift shop, salons and on-site entertainment and activities, our residents are accustomed to being able to find whatever they want or need, right on campus,” said Ben Gilchrist, vice president of operations for Friendship Senior Options. “Having Friendly Remedies here makes it much easier for residents to pick up and manage their medications. They no longer have to get in their cars, or take a taxi or our shuttle to drop off a prescription and then wait for it to be filled. This can all be done easily right within our building.”
Additionally, the pharmacy is stocked with over-the-counter medications and items including vitamins, personal hygiene products, snacks and more.
The telepharmacy component offers private pharmaceutical consultations via telecommunications. “There will be a pharmacy tech on site who will be able to process prescriptions and dispense medications. Residents wishing a consultation with a licensed pharmacist, can do so privately in an adjacent room, via telecommunications which will put the resident virtually face-to-face with the pharmacist,” said Gilchrist.
Symbria Rx Services, which is managing Friendly Remedies, is a pharmacy service provider that works exclusively with older adults. “We were confident in pursuing his project as we have an established, mutually respectful relationship with Symbria which also manages prescription medications for residents in our healthcare community,” said Gilchrist. “We are very excited to be offering this new and very unique amenity to our residents.
