Dr. Misconi’s memoir, “An Immigrant's Journey into the Cosmos” highlights the political history in Baghdad, Iraq and the Middle East and the struggles of living there during religious and political unrest. After immigrating to the United States he continued studying astronomy.
Having spent decades working on high profile missions such as Pioneer 10 and 11, Skylab and Space Shuttle Columbia, Dr. Misconi is now an accomplished astronomer and solar system researcher.
His work has allowed him interaction with very well known figures in astronomy and space science such the moon astronaut, Buzz Aldrin.
“I decided after my retirement to write about my life to inspire young students on what they can do when they put their mind to it, using what our country can offer,” Dr. Misconi said.
The author also includes his views on global warming, the threat of an asteroid or comet hitting Earth, and other topics such as the importance of liberty and freedom in the US.
