LAHAINA, Hawaii (PRWEB) September 21, 2015 -- In her autobiography, “Passing the Baton of Light: Saving a Family Tree,” former burlesque performer and actress Beverly J. Powers narrates her path from working in Hollywood to working for God.
After having shared the silver screen with Elvis Presley, as well as landing roles in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “The Red Skelton Show,” Powers decided to give her life to God and become a member of the clergy.
“The truth is the Lord just grabbed me,” Powers said of her decision to leave show business after 25 years in Hollywood. “I cried out to him for help, and he answered.”
Powers hopes that by passing the light of God’s unconditional love to others, they will also come to know that there is no darkness in life that His light can’t outshine.
“It became obvious that I had a responsibility to share my miracles with others,” Powers said. “I truly believe that we aren’t given such blessings to keep them to ourselves.”
In her book, Powers also shares her experiences as a chaplain for the Maui Community Correctional Center in Hawaii while her son was imprisoned on felony charges. Powers has since launched a nationwide prison outreach through her non-profit organization, The Living Ministry, to spread God’s love to incarcerated men and women across the country.

Beverly J. Powers is an ordained minister with The Living Ministry in Hawaii, and serves as a chaplain at Maui Memorial Hospital. She has performed more than 2,700 weddings and vow renewals to date, and has co-pastored and founded multiple churches across the Hawaiian Islands. Born in Los Angeles, Calif., Powers spent 25 years in Hollywood starring in iconic movies and television shows, including her role as the Queen of Burlesque known as “Miss Beverly Hills.”
