From Texas to Puerto Rico, PenFed Says Thank You to Troops and Families with Back-to-Back Concerts
Alexandria, Va. (PRWEB) November 13, 2014 -- Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PenFed) executives and members of its board of directors traveled to an unseasonably cool Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico during hurricane season to show their appreciation to troops and their families.
“It rained like crazy in San Juan, Friday night, but instead of cancelling, the staff at our Fort Buchanan branch made a great call to move the event indoors to the installation’s community center. Our team at the headquarters back in Virginia supported the branch by sending information about the change in venue to the 32,102 members in Puerto Rico for whom we have email addresses,” said James Schenck, PenFed president and CEO. “This was an important pre-Veterans Day event from any angle. Puerto Rico has contributed to every military conflict in which the United States has been involved, dating back to World War I. There are also a total of 136,000 PenFed members in Puerto Rico, which is roughly ten percent of our membership base. It was awesome to be able to go there and say, thank you, to a packed house in person.”
Just six days before, some of the same executives and board members who nearly got rained out in Puerto Rico awoke Nov. 1 to unexpected cool temperatures in Texas. Undeterred, they simply made some adjustments prior to the PenFed/USO sponsored Trace Adkins concert at Fort Hood. “Some of us purchased warmer clothing from the Base Exchange, but once the concert got going, the electricity in the air seemed to actually warm things up,” said Kevyn Myers, executive vice president and chief operating officer at PenFed. “It’s wonderful to see music bring people together and put smiles on their faces.”
