Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- JJ Lee, columnist and author of the critically acclaimed Measure of a Man: The Story of a Father, a Son and a Suit, will be hosting an informal reception at Earl’s Restaurant in Richmond’s Lansdowne Centre from 4 to 6 pm on Saturday, November 9. Tickets are $20 each ($25 at the door) and include an appetizer and beverage. The reception is open to the public and will appeal to readers and writers alike. JJ Lee will answer questions, sign books, talk about the life of a full-time writer and share his observations of the Canadian publishing industry. Net proceeds will be donated to Frontier College to help fund literacy initiatives in British Columbia.
The reception will mark the end of the inaugural Raindance Festival for Independent Authors. Festival organizers Black Bond Books and Vivalogue Publishing are also donating 10% of the day’s proceeds and hosting a book drive in support of Frontier College. Festival attendees and the general public will be encouraged to bring in new or gently used books for donation. With the exception of textbooks, books of all genres will be accepted. Those suitable for teaching literacy will be donated to one of the 16 programs Frontier College funds in BC. More advanced texts will be donated to the Bella Bella Library which was destroyed by fire in July of 2013.
Frontier College is Canada’s original literacy organization. Founded in 1899, this charitable organization recruits and trains volunteers to deliver literacy programs to children, youth and adults in communities across the country. Frontier College helps Canadians improve their literacy and increase their opportunities.
Frontier College has been working in B.C. since 1909. The first programs were delivered by young men and women who would work alongside their students by day and tutor them at night. Today, Frontier College delivers a variety of programs through a combination of volunteer power, strategic partnerships with government agencies and non-profit community organizations.
JJ Lee writes about men's fashion for The National Post; his fashion and personal essays are published in Elle Canada.
