Function-O Foods Announces Creation of Firebird Artisan Mills
Leawood, Kansas (PRWEB) July 18, 2014 -- Today Function-O Foods announced the formation of a new milling company, Firebird Artisan Mills focused on supplying specialized food ingredients to the consumer packaged goods industry. Firebird Artisan Mills includes acquiring the assets of Dakota Prairie Organic Flour Co., a milling operation in Harvey, North Dakota.
“Organic flours and gluten-free crops such as ancient grains continue to expand their importance in the marketplace,” said Dennis Krause, CEO of Function-O Foods. “We are excited to collaborate with innovative brands that can leverage organic and specialty ingredients such as quinoa, amaranth, flax and buckwheat to make healthy and great tasting flours and mixes.”
Function-O Foods is headquartered with parent company Agspring in the Kansas City area with a growing scope of operations across the United States. Currently, Function-O Foods also sells a premium quality, healthy protein product line, Simply Essentials, to the foodservice market available through US Foods in the Midwest. Firebird local operations will be managed by Mike Gorbitz, who brings more than 20 years of grain and food ingredient experience to the new company.

Firebird Artisan Mills holds a number of certifications including International Certification Services Gluten-Free and NOP Organic, USDA Organic, European Union Organic Standard, Japan Organic, British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Blue Ribbon Kosher.
