FundingFactory Announces Third Annual ‘Recycling Rumble’ Winners
ERIE, Pa. (PRWEB) June 10, 2014 -- More than 1,100 participants nationwide vied for the Top Recycler title during the “Recycling Rumble™,” a friendly one-on-one recycling competition hosted annually by FundingFactory®. From February 1 to April 30, FundingFactory participants competed to recycle the largest quantity of electronic waste (e-waste).
FundingFactory, the nation’s largest fundraising by recycling program for schools and nonprofits, matched competing participants according to their comparable recycling rate. Throughout the competition, participants collected and shipped e-waste – used inkjet and toner cartridges, cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras and GPS devices to FundingFactory.
In the end, the winning schools and nonprofits in each Rumble match-up earned a 25 percent fundraising bonus in addition to their regular recycling rewards. The top prize of $5,000 was awarded to The Learning Tree, a nationally accredited childcare center in Ridge Manor, Fla.; they recycled 4,032 items. With their recycling earnings and 25 percent bonus, The Learning Tree earned a grand total of $6,536.50.
“This is our second year participating in the Rumble, and we are thrilled to win the top prize,” said Gloria Harris, director of The Learning Tree. “That extra $5,000, combined with our current recycling earnings, will help us purchase a Kaplan Inspire-NG, a multi-touch table and interactive whiteboard. Our teachers, students, and community worked so hard for this.”
Second place went to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Team of Etters, Pa. Last year's Rumble winner, Manteca High School of Manteca, Calif., placed third. The organizations earned $1,000 and $500, respectively. In total, $95,285 was raised, and 129,480 recyclable items were kept out of landfills during the contest.
Participants found success in the Recycling Rumble by taking advantage of FundingFactory’s new score-boosting business support bonus. A business that sent qualifying items on behalf of a participating organization earned that organization two points per item. Items sent by the organization itself earned one point each.
