Funniest Night in America comes to LA
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 20, 2017 -- The Funniest Night in America, a Laughs for the Troops event, is coming to Los Angeles on May 20 at the Wadsworth Theatre (located on the grounds of VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System). Laughs for the Troops’ founder, Thomas Brown, will be joined by fellow comedians Happy Cole, Tommy Drake, and Phil Palisoul, to fill the room with laughter for our military service members, veterans and families who are impacted by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). These comedic greats will be joined by special guest performer, Consuela Ivy, to present a care-free night of fun and inspiration.
Carnival Cruise Line comedian, Thomas Brown, founded Laughs for the Troops in 2011 after his dad, who suffered from shell shock caused during his service in World War II, passed away. Brown’s desire to honor his dad, and his personal experience as a family member of a veteran suffering from PTSD led his passion to make an impact for our returning vets who are afflicted by the invisible wounds of war. Brown felt that his talents as a comedian could bring healing to others. Since then, he has led the not-for-profit in exploring and validating laughter as an antidote to combat the effects of PTSD/TBI in our military service members, veterans, and their families.
“At Laughs for the Troops, our mission is to make a difference in the lives of our returning service members and their families,” Brown said. “We are focused on lifting their spirits and setting them on the road to recovery so they can integrate into their communities. As we raise visibility of PTSD/TBI, we are also exploring other methods that help our troops. We are excited about the development, and launch later this year, of our mobile app that will provide support, outreach and connection for our PTSD/TBI wounded service members.”
At a social in late March, Brown and Jeff Campbell of Lithographix, Inc., a Laugh for the Troops sponsor, informed a gathering of supporters and community leaders about the organization’s mission and the upcoming Funniest Night in America, Los Angeles.
“As we plan for our big night, it is important that we understand the impact we have on our brave men and women who have worn our country’s military uniform for freedom,” stated Brown. “They deserve the very best, and it is our hope that our contribution of laughter as a medicine will help begin the healing process and provide a path to recovery and restoration for each attendee.”
The Funniest Night in America, Los Angeles, will take place at the Wadsworth Theatre (located on the grounds of VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System), 11301 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA, beginning at 8 p.m. on May 20 (doors open at 7:30 p.m.). Six hundred seats, out of over 1300, will be donated to veterans and their families. The remaining seats will be available for purchase on Laughs for the Troops’ website.
