Futurenatural-Supernatural: “The Essence of Nature’s Life Force Revealed” Opens September 9th By Mara G. Haseltine at Tatiana Pagés Gallery, Harlem, NYC
Harlem, NY (PRWEB) August 15, 2015 -- The show's focus is “The essence of nature’s life force,” says Haseltine, "Futurenatural-Supernatural addresses the need for all of us to reacquaint ourselves with the primordial life force within nature."
Haseltine is a science-based artist who works both in the “field” and in the laboratory examining life on a microscopic level. Summarizing a six-month series of performance-like rituals, Futurenatural-Supernatural presents photographic works in which objects created by the artist – from hand blown glass to molecular cusine pearls infused with green fluorescent protein, are depicted in natural settings including ocean tide pools, forests and under the microscope. “It both imagines and embraces the ability of our beautiful watery biosphere to regenerate and create new and yet unknown combinations of future life forms.”
According to Curator Tatiana Pagés “The Gallery will be transformed into a space where the viewer’s relationship to scale and time is altered, thus affording a space where nature, evolution, and environmental can be experienced and contemplated. The show includes a 14-feet mural in line with the Gallery’s mission of changing minds through the unexpected and environmental awareness through art and design”
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Known internationally for her sculptural renditions of microscopic life forms and biological structures, Mara G. Haseltine is an ardent environmentalist and has been recognized for using a scientific lens as a tool in her artistic investigation of the natural world. Haseltine has been artist-in-residence at University College of Dublin in Ireland, Tara Oceans and Imagine Science Films. She was awarded Flag 75 from the Explorer’s Club for their three-year voyage around the world studying the ocean’s relationship to climate change.
