Gabriel Pediatrics, a Staten Island Pediatric Care Center, Offers the Top Five Tips to Avoid the Flu
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 25, 2014 -- Gabriel Pediatrics, a Staten Island pediatric care center, responds to an article published by the Orion Gazette, which names five different steps to take in order to avoid being infected with the flu this winter.
According to the January 20 article published by the Orion Gazette titled “Top five tips for avoiding the flu,” there are five recommended steps one could take this winter season in order to avoid coming down the flu. The most important step someone can take is to get the flu vaccine. The following are five additional precautions to take as explained by Demetrios Gabriel of Gabriel Pediatrics:
• If you are sick, stay home. “Although this seems obvious, many infected people will fight through the symptoms and head to work because they don’t want to use up sick days, fall behind on work, etc,” says Gabriel. “However, it is best to stay home in order to keep the disease from spreading as it is extremely contagious.”
• Avoid any type of close contact with those who are sick. “As I stated above, many people will come into work despite being sick for various reasons,” he says. “If this happens, do your best to avoid any sort of contact and keep being within a close proximity to them to a minimum.”
• Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and throw away the tissue immediately after use. “This is an extremely important precaution to take because those with the flu can spread it to others as far as six feet away by coughing and sneezing,” says Gabriel.
• Wash your hands often. “Keeping your hands clean and free of germs will lessen your chances of contracting any illnesses,” he says. “If soap and water aren’t readily available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.”
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. “It is extremely important to keep these areas free of outside contact because of their vulnerability to illnesses and germs,” says Gabriel. “If you must touch these areas be sure to thoroughly wash your hands first.”
