GAFFEY Healthcare Announces Utilization of Microsoft's Machine Learning Predictive Analytics to Improve Collections Automation Platform – GAFFEY AlphaCollector

Healthcare providers today face the challenge of unpredictability with their daily and monthly cash flows due to delayed reimbursements from commercial payers. By using ML and AlphaCollector, hospitals can accurately gauge how long it will take for insurance companies to pay claims based on historical payment data. It can also help provider’s business offices determine whether a human collector is needed to accelerate the claim payment process.
To make predictions, a Machine Learning model was developed to determine whether a human collector is needed to have the insurance company pay the claim, and to predict how long it will take for an insurance company to pay a claim. Azure Machine Learning was used to develop the models, which work on the same input data composed of insurance and claim information. The web service takes the claim and insurance information as the input, and outputs the probability of a human collector being needed and the predicted length of time for a claim to be paid. This information is then fed into AlphaCollector ensuring that claims are only touched by the right collector at the right time and that the next claim touched by a collector is the correct one. This not only reduces the amount of touches a collector makes but ensures that the collectors are resolving the most applicable claims – increasing cash collections.
