Gail Miller Leadership Cup benefits SLCC students
Sandy, Utah (PRWEB) September 19, 2014 -- Salt Lake Community College this week held its second annual Gail Miller Utah Leadership Cup golf tournament at Hidden Valley Country Club in Sandy to raise funds for student scholarships.
“The tournament is the College’s signature event to raise scholarship dollars so that our students can meet their educational goals,” said Alison McFarlane, vice president of Institutional Advancement at SLCC. “We are so pleased and thankful for the incredible community support that allowed us to raise more than $130,000 for student scholarships this year.”
The event is named in honor of Gail Miller, who chairs the SLCC Board of Trustees. Miller and SLCC President Deneece Huftalin were featured by David James and Patrick Kinahan during an on-site broadcast of The Zone Sports Network. SLCC student ambassadors greeted golfers at each hole to talk about the College and their goals.
Four-person teams began the day with a shotgun start and played an 18-hole team scramble format. Utah Jazz broadcasters Craig Bolerjack and Ron Boone, ABC 4 sports anchor Wesley Ruff, former Major League Baseball player Cory Snyder, former WNBA player and Olympic gold medalist Natalie Williams and former NBA player Mehmet Okur were on the course throughout the day to take a few swings at the request of golfers. The winning teams for the three flights were: Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation; Media One; and Mountain America Credit Union.
