Galaxy Press Celebrates Aviation Day
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 11, 2014 -- Saturday, August 19, has been designated a day to celebrate the development of aviation in the United States. It was established in 1939 through a presidential proclamation from Franklin Delano Roosevelt that the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday be National Aviation Day. Mr. Wright was born in 1871 and was 68 when the proclamation was codified. He lived an additional 9 years following its enactment.
Publisher Galaxy Press has chosen to celebrate this upcoming occasion with two specific air adventure titles—both by L. Ron Hubbard—Forbidden Gold, an adventure as daring and dangerous as any undertaken by Indiana Jones, and The Devil—With Wings, a fictionalized account of the second Sino-Japanese War with an American fighter pilot dedicated to stopping the invading Japanese into Manchuria.
Hubbard was himself an accomplished sail and powered flight pilot at the dawn of America’s emergency into aviation, and so was able to add a sense of realism into his storytelling that made him one of the most popular adventure story writers of his day. Sportsman’s Pilot, in its July 1934 issue, wrote of him, “Ron could do more stunts in a sailplane than most pilots can in a pursuit job. He would come out of spins at an altitude of thirty inches and thumb his nose at the undertakers who used to come out to the field and titter.”
