Galaxy Press Presents 100,000 Books for Underprivileged youth through Marines Toys for Tots program
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) December 05, 2013 -- On the night before the Hollywood Christmas Parade, a special dinner was held in the L. Ron Hubbard Library at Author Services, Inc. where Galaxy Press president John Goodwin presented 100,000 books to the Marines Toys for Tots literacy program. General Pete Osman, USMC (Ret), President and CEO of the Marines Toys for Tots program, was on hand to accept the contribution stating that one of his first objectives upon becoming CEO of the Toys for Tots program was to start a literacy program whereby “one book would be given with every two toys.”
In his presentation to Toys for Tots, Goodwin stated regarding the stories written by L. Ron Hubbard that were being presented, “Whether military fiction, adventure or even his westerns, creating characters who learned better and did what was right in the end was what readers identified with in the 1940s and 50s.” He concluded, “And today, these same stories still provide that sense of honor, regardless of one’s circumstances—young or old, rich or poor—with characters that readers can identify with.”
Toys for Tots began in Los Angeles in 1947 and has grown to be one of the largest charitable organizations in America, to date providing more than 469,000,000 toys and books to underprivileged children. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The Hollywood Christmas Parade is the kick-off event for the Marines Toys for Tots Program and Author Services became host to the 600 celebrity guests as the green room on parade day.
