Gannett Fleming Supports ISI Envision™ Sustainability Training for 100 Employees
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) December 21, 2013 -- Gannett Fleming will support the training of more than 100 employees in the Envision™ Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential program by 2016. The infrastructure-wide sustainability metrics rating system applies to all civil engineering projects.
“Sustainability is a core value of our firm, and the Envision™ rating system complements the innovative, sustainable infrastructure we deliver to our clients and the communities we serve and adds expertise to our team’s talent,” said Mark Johnson, vice president and corporate sustainability officer for Gannett Fleming, based in North Andover, Mass. “We also recognize the potential of Envision™ to raise the level of awareness in sustainable horizontal design for owners, regulators, and practitioners throughout the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) industry.”
Sponsored by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI), the ENV SP program provides employees of private and public sector organizations with the training and skills to rate infrastructure projects. This system provides and rates projects with industry-wide sustainability metrics for all horizontal infrastructure types--an approach similar to its vertical facility counterpart, LEED®.
Horizontal infrastructure includes roads, bridges, railways, landfills, water and wastewater-treatment plants, power-transmission lines, and public spaces in our cities and towns.
Envision™ is a collaborative effort between ISI and the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Mass. As a charter member of ISI, Gannett Fleming worked closely with the organization to guide the rating system’s development.
"We take pride in our sustainable achievements and remain accountable to our sustainability goals by auditing our progress and reporting the results in an annual corporate sustainability report," said Robert M. Scaer, P.E., president and chief operating officer of Gannett Fleming. “These sustainable accomplishments, projects, and metrics demonstrate efforts to reduce Gannett Fleming’s environmental footprint, manage waste, and respond to clients’ sustainability challenges.”
Gannett Fleming’s efforts to create sustainable infrastructure through projects and services have been recognized in Engineering News-Record. The firm is ranked #37 on the magazine’s 2013 Top 100 Green Design Firms list based on design revenue from registered sustainable projects.
