GAP wins the Construction News Employer of the Year Award
(PRWEB UK) 21 July 2014 -- GAP Group is delighted to have been announced as Employer of the Year by voice of the industry, Construction News. The award ceremony brought together 1,300 of the industry elite for construction’s biggest night of industry networking and celebration.
The judges awarded GAP the Employer of the Year title based on the company’s success in both getting the basics right and going the extra mile for its staff.
The past year has been one of exceptional growth for GAP and as a result the company increased its workforce by 8% to stand at 1,200, and over the same period 8% of employees were promoted internally.
GAP’s commitment to people development is also confirmed through their apprenticeship scheme. The company works with Hire Association Europe on the LifeMAPS scheme, which is designed to support the development of 18-24-year-olds to prepare them for work. During 2013 the business took on 14 new apprentices, taking its total to 61, all of whom have the option of employment with GAP once they have completed their training. GAP has a policy to employ at least one apprentice at each one of their nationwide depots across the UK.
A family-owned firm which is run like a PLC, GAP applies core values of trust and integrity throughout its operations. Head of HR, Catriona Dunning, commented; “GAP values each and every one of our employees and we are dedicated to the training and development of our workforce. Our aim is to provide working environments where employees can maximise their performance, commitment and contribution.”
Huge credit was also given for the company’s success in developing strong relationships with its employees and fostering an outstanding culture across the business. Judges on the Construction News Award panel commented: “GAP takes an incredibly comprehensive approach backed by clear conviction and has clearly worked hard to make itself a business people care about. With the company targeting further growth and a 50% rise in its headcount over the next three years, we were in no doubt GAP and its staff have a positive future ahead.”
GAP was up against a strong collection of finalists to win the award including Amey, Lagan Construction Group and VolkerWessels UK. The award ceremony took place on 17th July at the Grovesnor House Hotel in London.
