Gartner Names Sqrrl in 2014 "Cool Vendors" Report
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- Sqrrl, the company that develops the most secure, scalable, and flexible NoSQL database software for powering real-time big data applications, today announced it has been named as one of four “Cool Vendors" in Database Management Systems (DBMS) 2014ⁱ report by Gartner, Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company.
Gartner offers world-class, objective insight on a wide variety of IT solutions, and each year publishes a series of research reports that identify the pioneering “Cool Vendors” in key areas of technology. The Gartner's “Cool Vendors in DBMS, 2014” report – written by Nick Heudecker, Research Director, and Merv Adrian, Research Vice President – introduces information technology managers to companies innovating in the DBMS space.
“We are honored to be chosen by Gartner as a ‘Cool Vendor' in DBMS for 2014 and are excited to be a part of this group that will surely have a huge impact on the future of business operations,” says Mark Terenzoni, CEO of Sqrrl. “There are a number of DBMS products emerging in the market that are challenging conventional practices in traditional IT. We are unique in that we are simplifying deployment by introducing hybrid data models and are delivering specialized security capabilities, known as data-centric security, that are critical to a variety of use cases.”
Sqrrl is a non-relational DBMS solution, which is emerging as an increasingly favorable alternative to the traditional relational databases. Non-relational database solutions have flexible schemas that are not constrained by the data organization implicit in the relational SQL query language. Sqrrl builds on this concept of flexible schemas by offering customers the choice of using both graph and document data models. This additional flexibility translates to more powerful Big Data applications.
In addition to Sqrrl’s hybrid data model, Sqrrl Enterprise differs from other non-relational databases by providing data-centric security capabilities. Data-centric security begins will cell-level tagging of individual pieces of data to enable fine-grained access controls, but also includes support for Role Based Access Controls, Attribute Based Access Controls, labeling engines, encryption in motion, encryption at rest, and audit.
“We’ve built Data-Centric Security into our product, end to end,” continues Terenzoni. “Sqrrl is the only data platform that can provide a complete and holistic story around data-centric security, while still powering interactive web applications in use cases such as Advanced Persistent Threat detection for cybersecurity and claims analysis for healthcare."
