Gary Bullock Explores Parallel Realities in New Novel

Science prodigies Lije Grant and Laura Bess Austin were soul mates since childhood, but their romance was cut short when Laura died in a plane crash flying off to college. Lije went on to become an astrophysicist, living a minimal existence and tracking boring space junk night after tedious night at a radar station. Then, one evening, he notices a satellite suddenly veering off course, disappearing into deep space.
Investigating, Lije discovers that the satellite disappeared into a small black hole, and the black hole is coming closer. The Earth has maybe two weeks before Armageddon. After his shift, as he’s sitting in a coffee shop trying to make sense of his discovery, Lije is stunned when Laura Bess walks up to him and says hello.
As it turns out, Laura Bess is alive and living in an alternate reality she calls an “elsewhen.” In her new life, she found work at a top-secret teleportation program, hoping to make her way back to Lije. But when she is seen vanishing to connect with Lije, the authorities believe that she has stolen the secret to teleportation. Now, Lije must rescue Laura from a sadistic security agent in her alternate universe. With the black hole closing in on Earth, can Lije and Laura Bess find a way to cross over to a third elsewhen before it’s too late?
