Gary Douglas, Founder of Access Consciousness, to Give Lecture in Perth
Perth, Austrailia (PRWEB) August 26, 2014 -- Gary Douglas, one of the three authors of the new book "Would you teach a fish to climb a tree?", is coming to Perth to give a class on how to have a different perspective on children with labelled behavioural difficulties. The class will take place on September 18 at the Ibis Hotel in Northbridge.
Douglas is the founder of self-help organisation Access Consciousness, a group with more than 2000 trained facilitators in 131 countries.
"This is a groundbreaking book," says Douglas. "With diagnoses of these kids on the increase it's time to stop seeing them as limited and instead understand the infinite possibility that lies within them. These kids are all more than a little magical; it's just that often we don't know how to see past their label and what they can't do, into what they really can do – and beyond."
"Would you teach a fish to climb a tree?" contains tools, stories, observations, and questions intended to be used by anyone who has a child with labelled behavioural difficulties.
"It's all about acknowledging that your child knows things, perceives things, and receives things too, and trying not to come from the perspective that you’re superior because you’re an adult. Your kids have their own wisdom too, and even though their bodies are smaller than yours, it doesn’t mean they are smaller than you are," says Douglas. "Acknowledging their capacity to perceive, comprehend, be and contribute valuable knowledge is the single most important thing that you, as a parent or a teacher, can do to assist them to access their talents and capacities. This is especially true for kids with autism, OCD, ADD, ADHD and all those other labels – because they have special gifts."
