Gary's Job Board Debuts a New Driver Platform to Combat the Truck Driver Shortage
Commerce City, CO (PRWEB) October 07, 2014 -- Gary's Job Board debuts a new Driver Platform to combat the truck driver shortage
Truck Driver Shortage? There is no truck driver shortage. There is, however, a disconnect between CDL Drivers and Trucking Companies.
What does this mean? Gary's Job Board has 10 drivers for every job listed. The actual problem is a major disconnect between those CDL Drivers looking for a job, and the Companies who’d like to hire them.
So, let’s define the disconnect:
• Most job listings are too mechanical, dry, and impersonal. They’re short on pertinent information. So, the driver sees just another ho-hum job listing in a sea of ho-hums.
• Compensation details are missing. Carriers often note that compensation will be determined at the interview.
• It’s very difficult for a driver to get a feel for the company work environment from these repetitive job listings.
• Is competing on the lowest-common-denominator level working? If so, press on.
Essentially, companies approach driver recruiting the old-fashioned way.
It's not working. As far as recruiting goes, it’s a driver's market. Companies seeking to hire quality drivers must go the extra mile by appealing to those drivers with listings that entice and motivate.
Jobs postings that read "looking for drivers who know how to work!" turn potential drivers away. The psychology of that statement is reminiscent of dictators.
Well-written job listing copy goes a long way. This Drivers Market requires a little selling. Try thinking like a sales professional. Would a driver apply to the above job listing? Probably not.
The CDL Driver job market is already saturated with these types of job listings. Companies need to set themselves apart by describing the job in detail; post the pay, benefits and home time; and most important, be honest.
**The Truck Driver perspective:**
Truck drivers are overwhelmed with job listings. They're tired of seeing the same old minimalist job listings. Trucking companies need to differentiate themselves if they expect to win the battle for quality drivers.
Drivers think: "I have a good job with plenty of hours (or miles). I’m willing to switch jobs, but, the switch needs to be a step up.”
A lateral move is not in their best interest. They want to better their lives, just like everyone else. Switching to the same job is pointless and time-consuming.
These days, drivers know better than to give out their qualifications to random job recruitment sites. The expectation of recruiting ‘telemarketers’ constantly calling has put drivers on the defensive. One call too many and the driver’s cell phone is dead to potential recruiters. Note: Gary’s Job Board DOES NOT do business this way.
