GE Scientists Turn to the Crowd to Design 3D Printed Sleigh for Santa
North Pole and Niskayuna, NY (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- GE is teaming up with GRABCAD to launch a design contest and crowdsource a new 3D design for Santa’s sleigh. Details, specifications and rules for contest can be found here. A team of 3D experts from GE’s Additive Manufacturing Lab will judge and select the winning design, which will be turned into an ornament that is featured during GE’s #3DPrintMyGift holiday campaign on Tuesday, December 3rd.
In past years, GE researchers have reached out across its diverse technology portfolio to build and upgrade Santa’s sleigh. But with no time to spare and the gift list continuing to grow, GE scientists are turning to the crowd and the power of 3D printing to design a whole new sleigh for Santa that will ensure he makes all of his deliveries this holiday season.
GE’s panel of 3D expert judges noted that designs already have been posted to the contest site. “We’re excited about the designs that already have been submitted and looking forward to reviewing many more throughout the week,” said Juan Pablo Cilia, a manufacturing design specialist. “We hope ‘sleigh designs will be ringing’ into the contest site in the quest to deliver a new sleigh for Santa in time for the holidays.”
