Gemba Academy Goes Back to School in New Gemba Live! Series
(PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- From healthcare, consulting, to dishwashing, lean methodologies can be applied to so much more than traditional manufacturing. At Platt Technical High School, being lean is just part of a typical school day.
Located in Milford, Connecticut, Platt Technical High School puts students on the fast track to their desired career paths by offering trade-specific programs, including carpentry, automotive technology, and even hairdressing. Lean principles like 5S and the Seven Wastes are incorporated into the curriculum to encourage efficiency and improve overall performance.
"It's [an] example of how business and industry can teach us some things about being efficient with space, time, and productivity. And also putting in those protocols and practices to sustain what you have created," explained Sheila Williams, Principal at Platt Tech.
Gemba Academy Co-Founder Ron Pereira met with the staff, faculty, and students at Platt Tech to discuss what it's like to attend a lean-based technical school. He also toured many of the shops, witnessing firsthand the students' uniquely advanced skill sets.
"It was so inspiring to watch these students apply skills well beyond their years. Their understanding of lean principles became apparent almost immediately," Pereira stated.
