GenCure partnering with H-E-B to celebrate World Marrow Donor Day with drives across San Antonio: Teams to recruit for the Be The Match registry at 30 H-E-B locations
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) September 14, 2017 -- One of the world’s largest World Marrow Donor Day events will take place across San Antonio on Saturday, Sept. 16.
For six hours that day, the GenCure Marrow Donor Program will be signing up potential donors for the national Be The Match registry at more than 30 H-E-B grocery stores in San Antonio.
The registration tables will be staffed by employees from all the subsidiaries of BioBridge Global, including GenCure, QualTex Laboratories and the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center as well as community volunteers, donors and recipients. Volunteers can learn more at Gencure.org/wmdd.
In addition to helping potentially lifesaving donors with the simple registration process, volunteers will be providing information about donating blood and signing up for the organ and tissue donor registry.
World Marrow Donor Day is a global effort to thank donors, as well as publicize and expand the registry of potential donors. Those stem cell donations are used to help treat patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, as well as other blood-related conditions.
The drive in San Antonio runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. It will take place in conjunction with World Marrow Donor Day events elsewhere in the United States, as well 50 countries around the world.
