Gene Spencer Tells True Love Story of World War II Pilot, Nurse in New Book
Valparaiso, IN (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- The American Volunteer Group (AVG), also known as The Flying Tigers, were a group of American pilots formed in 1941, who went to China to aid them in their battle with Japan. According to http://www.historynet.com, they destroyed nearly 300 Japanese aircraft, while losing only 69 planes. Emma Jane Foster (Jane) and John Emil Petach (Pete) were two proud members of the AVG during World War II, who just happened to fall in love. Gene Spencer tells their story of love, passion and war in his new book, “The Last Mission: A Love and War Story All About Pete and Jane, a Pilot and Nurse of World War Two With the Famed Flying Tigers 1941–1942” (published by WestBow Press).
“The Last Mission” begins with Jane joining the AVG as a nurse, and follows her meeting with Pete, a pilot in the AVG, ultimately ending with the story of how they fell in love during a time of war and strife. The story is told in first-person through Jane and Pete’s eyes in alternating chapters, allowing readers to get inside their heads and understand the conflict and the relationship in a more intimate way.
While the story is told through the perspectives of Jane and Pete, it chronicles the lives of many other men and women Jane and Pete met in the AVG, which Spencer hopes will allow readers to get a complete picture of who the AVG were as a whole.
Spencer wrote “The Last Mission” from a place of passion and admiration, which he hopes will be passed on to readers. More than anything however, he hopes it will get across the message that, “love is forever, life is not.”
