Genins AutoCare Celebrates 23 Years of Donating to Madison Ronald McDonald House
MADISON, WI (PRWEB) February 23, 2015 -- Rick Genin always had desire to be in the automotive repair business. It was his mother-in-law, Maddy Leohard, who had a significant impact on Genin's Autocare start up loan. When she passed away 1992, the first year the garage was in business, he decided to donate to the local Ronald McDonald House to honor her lifelong commitment to serving the less fortunate members of the community.
Recently, 23 years later, the shop got a visit from Ronald McDonald himself to thank the company for all their years of support.
“Unfortunately, I wasn't there to greet him,” said Genin. “But he gave us a big thanks for ‘taking such great care of our guests.’”
The various locations of the Ronald McDonald House charity provide free or low-cost accommodations -- homes away from home -- for families who have traveled to seek treatment for an ill or seriously injured child. The Madison location, which opened in 1993 funded entirely by community gifts, is situated just outside the children’s hospital and less than a mile from the auto shop. Genin says he empathizes with the important work the house does. “Sometimes the kids are very ill and need as much care as possible,” he said. “It's a big deal.”
Genins AutoCare has donated about $5,500 to the charity, and is well known for making similar donations to other area nonprofits as well as the local high school. The workers also provide discounted jump starts, service calls and minor repairs to the Ronald McDonald House families.
Genin sees such relationships as being fulfilling for everyone involved.
“Donating to local charities such as the Ronald McDonald House always makes a positive impact on all parties,” Genin said. “There's a lot of people that volunteer over at the house, and it's just a great avenue of community involvement for us.”
