Genins AutoCare Will Continue Penny a Gallon Donations in 2015
MADISON, WI (PRWEB) January 14, 2015 -- Genins AutoCare has announced that it will once again participate in the Penny a Gallon fund in 2015. For the program, which has been running for over 20 years, the auto shop donates a penny for each gallon of gasoline purchased at its station on Tuesdays. The total is calculated at the end of every Tuesday throughout the year.
“We believe that giving back to the community is a great way to foster close relationships with those who live in the area,” said Rick Genin, owner. “Large businesses are always giving money, and this is a great way for a small business to do a small part for a community.”
The funds, which total between $1,200 and $1,500 each year, are given to Madison West High School’s technology department, where the donations are used to purchase woodworking, metalworking and electrical equipment. The company has given approximately $26,000 to date.
“This is a great opportunity for us to help the school. I was also a graduate of Madison West High School, so it is fun to give money to a great cause,” Genin shared.
Genin said that it was actually ExxonMobil that approached Genins AutoCare some two decades ago and encouraged the shop to get involved through this method of charitable giving. “We jumped on board with the donations and haven’t turned back since,” he added.
It also allows the shop to develop a closer relationship with the high school’s technology department and its students. “We've been working with tech education instructors for over 20 years; we sometimes even hire the graduating high schoolers,” Genin explained. “We’re really proud to help the school’s instructor because he can use the money more freely to assist the department without having to ask the district board for more funding.”
Ultimately, Genin emphasized, this effort is about building a stronger community and offering more opportunities to the students they hope will be either employees or customers in the future. “We’re just so excited to be starting another new year of this great program,” he said.
